i’ve seen all those sites online offering car loans to people with bad credit. I am very skeptical of those. Does anyone know where should I start looking?

There is no good place to get a loan if you have bad credit. Those places that say they can, will do anything to get you into the door so they can sock it to ya. They cannot guarantee jack squat. Those places that have buy here, pay here are crooks & thieves. They inflate their cars & hit you with interest that will actually be worse than a credit card. Speak with your bank first before you do anything you’ll regret. They can tell you what you can have based on your current score & how much you can afford.
